It’s time to rethink Trans Mountain

Trans Mountain is an environmental and economic disaster, violates Indigenous rights, and makes even less sense in the post-pandemic economy.

The world has changed. We are seeing the impacts of climate fires. Oil markets are reeling since COVID-19, energy experts predict demand is unlikely to return, and giants like Shell and Total are pulling out of the oil sands.

The business case for the Trans Mountain pipeline is broken and the Liberals are putting billions of dollars at risk by pushing ahead – at a time when we need every public dollar to help people weather the economic storm caused by the pandemic.

Only a fraction of the pipeline has been built, and billions could still be saved to fund the clean energy projects and sustainable jobs that will build a healthy, resilient economy for all Canadians.

More than 100 economists and energy experts are questioning the viability of Trans Mountain, and calling on the federal government to pause spending in light of COVID-19.

Add your name if you think Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland should rethink Trans Mountain, and invest in a just and sustainable recovery instead.
